On Wednesday 11 November, Jeroen de Swart, CEO of AEB Amsterdam, signed a Green Deal for the establishment of a large regional heating network in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region. Other partners in this deal include the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Provinces of North and South Holland, the Municipality of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam Economic Board.
Studies have shown that a regional network is capable of heating 500,000 homes in an efficient and sustainable manner using residual industrial heat. By doing this, Amsterdam plans to tackle heating waste and make a substantial contribution to the country’s climate objectives. As part of the deal, the Ministry will provide a financial contribution of €330,000 for the project Heat and Cold in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region (AMR).
AEB Amsterdam is an important supplier of this heating, which is generated by the combustion of residual waste.
A book and animation film have been made in order to inform the wider public about the plans for heating in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region. The full media release from the Amsterdam Economic Board can be found here.
